West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) Next Generation internship Programme is now open for applications for the 2024 session.
WACSI is a region and non-governmental organization with one of its ultimate goals to enhance the capacities of civil society associations in the western part of Africa toward greater sustainability and operational effectiveness
WACSI introduced a Next Generation internship program in Jan. 2008 With the ultimate goal of preparing and developing the next generation of scholars and practitioners. This program was in response to an identified need to structure a capacity for enhancing young West Africans.
The WACSI program is primarily made for young West Africans, either newly graduated early career professionals who seek for experience in working in WACSI.
Potential interns are expected to dedicate six months of their schedule to WACSI during which they will be involved in WACSI activities to enhance their knowledge and capacities for leadership, knowledge and program management, and critical development issues for West Africa.
WACSI is currently looking for interns from the West African sub-region interested in enhancing their careers and developing their professional capacity
The ideal interns will be integrated into WACSI’s core areas of work which may include capacity development, knowledge management and policy influencing, and advocacy.
NEEDED REQUIREMENTS
- Intended interns must have at least a minimum of a first degree in international affairs, political science, public policy, development studies, or any other related fields
- Intended applicants must show unwavering interest in non-profit organizations and civic society
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Willingness to learn and take initiative and very proactive
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work well under pressure either with minimal or no supervision
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES FOR INTERNS
- Interns will provide general administrative support for programs, maintain a calendar of activities, Budget monitoring, etc
- Interns will support in designing and implementing assessment tools, training, and every technical support needed
- Ideal interns will participate in unit and cross-unit programs and project planning including proposal development
- Interns will assist with the organization’s arrangements of all training and technical support planned under their various unit
- Interns will support other administrative tasks
- Interns will assist in the policy advocacy training development
- Interns will also assist their units in gathering information and writing reports for policy meetings.
- Interns will assist in workshop preparations
- Conduct desktop research on policy and legislative issues
- Interns will help in designing and developing tools for training like modules, toolkits, and other training resources that may be needed.
- Interns will help to serve as a liaisons between WACSI and resource persons, partners, associates, etc.

Please note that preference will be given to applicants with high proficiency in English, creator Portuguese or a combination of any of them.
The successful intern will spend a particular period of time working at the WACSI office in Accra Ghana as part of their Internship
The period of the internship is from July to December 2024. Interns who are unable to complete their Internship programme will refund the total cost of their Internship package back to WACSI.
